Manufacturing Preferences
Manufacturing preferences are currently focused on custom fields for manufacturing records. These settings are useful when your production team needs to capture additional information that is not part of the default SevenLedger form.
Manufacturing Settings Areas
The manufacturing settings UI includes:
- Bom Setting
- Production Order Setting
There is also a production journal route in the frontend, but the primary visible settings navigation currently centers on BOM and Production Order.
BOM Setting
The BOM Setting page is used to manage custom fields for Bills of Materials.
Use BOM custom fields when you need to store structured production-planning information such as:
- revision number
- formula batch note
- quality specification
- internal engineering tag
- compliance reference
These fields help production, costing, and reporting teams keep BOM data consistent without forcing those details into a free-text note.
Production Order Setting
The Production Order Setting page is used to manage custom fields for Production Orders.
Use production order custom fields when your shop floor or operations team needs extra execution detail such as:
- supervisor name
- shift reference
- job card number
- machine line reference
- internal manufacturing ticket
These fields are especially useful if different branches or factories use the same production order flow but still need local operational detail on each document.
When to Use Custom Fields in Manufacturing
Add custom fields only when the information is:
- required repeatedly,
- important for filtering or reporting,
- and better stored as structured data than as a note.
Avoid creating too many one-off manufacturing fields, because overloaded forms become harder for operators to use on the floor.
Best Practice
- Standardize the meaning of each custom field before rolling it out.
- Use short, clear labels that production staff can understand quickly.
- Reserve manufacturing custom fields for data your team will actually review later.
